TFL: The Suffering Christ Part 2
- Discussion picks up around 15:00
- Peter is not suggesting that the benefits of salvation are to be experienced as a result of any power of the baptismal ceremony or in the baptismal water
- Salvation may be portrayed in baptism it is not performed by baptism
- Sacrament is an excellent word – comes from the latin word sacramentum which is a soldier’s oath of alegiance and when a man or woman is baptised they are taking a soldier’s oath of allegiance
- How can a child of infancy take a soldier’s oath of allegiance? It is not possible and therefore we do not ask it
- Baptism is a profession of faith, not an assurance of salvation
