R.C. Sproul on the Holiness of God
- From a Ligonier Ministries question and answer forum
- R.C. Sproul provides an excellent discussion on the perils of not recognizing and upholding the holiness of God
- We cannon construct a hierarchy of the attributes of God, but yet that is what we tend to do – we have a smorgasbord of attributes
- We like to take the love, grace, and mercy of God, but we leave sovereignty, wrath, and justice there because those things make us uncomfortable
- The holiness of God is referred to in scripture time and time again to define the character of God
- If you look at the historic confessions and creeds of several denominations there is nothing very different the doctrine of God, there is nothing particularly unique about the reformed doctrine of God, yet paradoxically the most distinctive attribute of reformed theology is the doctrine of God
- The difference is that in reformed theology the entire substance of systematic theology is constantly informed by and subservient to the doctrine of God
- In other theologies the doctrine of God is confessed at the outset, but as they get to the other elements of theology they forget what the said about God and suddenly the theology becomes man centered instead of God centered and when your theology becomes man centered instead of God centered, your worship becomes man centered instead of God centered
